Everyone feels anxious, feeling occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. Many people worry about things such as health, money, study, job, or family problems. That’s why sometimes people feel anxious. It is your brain’s way of reacting to stress and alerting you of potential danger ahead. For example, you may worry when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, giving an interview for a job, or before making an important decision. These types of anxiety are unpleasant.
If the feeling of fear may be with you all the time and it’s intense and sometimes debilitating it is an Anxiety disorder. These feelings of anxiety interfere with your daily life activities and are difficult to control and involve more than temporary worry or fear.
Examples of anxiety disorders are:
- Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
- Social anxiety disorder
- Specific phobias
- Separation anxiety disorder
- Panic disorder
The main symptom of anxiety disorder is worry and fear but anxiety symptoms can also include:
- Anxious thoughts, which is difficult to control
- Restless or tense
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Increased heart rate or palpitations
- Dry mouth, nausea
- Dizziness or drowsiness
- Trouble concentrating
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Concentration difficulties
I can breathe but I feel like I can’t anxiety
Anxiety can cause shortness of breath, experiencing shortness of breath or other breathing difficulties can feel scary. But shortness of breath is one of the common symptoms of anxiety. You can feel like you can’t catch your breath, tightness in your chest, or like you’re suffocating or hungry for air, it can be concerning but it is ultimately harmless. They can suspect that they are having a breathing or heart problem, when in reality, they are noticing a symptom of anxiety.
Shortness of breath when talking
Shortness of breath is a common symptom of anxiety but shortness of breath while talking can indicate asthma, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, or a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), depending on the circumstances. Shortness of breath or difficulty talking can be a sign of something serious, it is best to consult your doctor. Breathing problems are a common symptom of Anxiety or panic attack. That’s why shortness of breath while talking can be the reason for anxiety.
Can stress cause shortness of breath?
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath is the sign of stress and anxiety. Stress can affect our body, emotions and how we behave in lots of different ways, so you can say that stress can cause shortness of breath, panic attacks, sleep problems and fatigue. Stress might make you anxious, depressed, fatigued, irritable, worried or tense, unable to enjoy yourself or uninterested in life.
How do I know if my shortness of breath is heart related?
If you are short of breath, it can feel like you can’t get enough air into your lungs and you can’t take breath. Many different heart problems can lead to shortness of breath, it may be due to a serious underlying health condition. If you experience shortness of breath, please seek medical help. It can also occur during physical activities or stressful situations. Causes of shortness of breath due to heart or lung conditions, it is also due to stress, anxiety and panic attacks. It is not a good idea to ignore shortness of breath or difficulty breathing to treat it lightly.
